P.A.D.S. (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) On Wednesday, October 5, our doors opened to the homeless in our community, providing shelter, meals and fellowship every Wednesday evening through April 25, 2012. The goal of the P.A.D.S. program is to provide hospitality, food, and emergency shelter to homeless people from October 1 through April 30 each year, seven days a week from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., including holidays. Each site hosts guests one night per week and is staffed entirely by volunteers who set up and supervise sleeping accommodations for the night, serve dinner and breakfast, and prepare a sack lunch “to go”, all in a welcoming, supportive, safe environment. Each Wednesday evening we serve as a P.A.D.S. site, as many as 20-25 volunteers are needed for staffing in shifts. Eighteen P.A.D.S. sites are located in the Northwest Suburban area with funding provided by faith communities, individuals, social and civic organizations, corporations, and foundations. If you would like to volunteer to staff one of the shifts or join the clean-up crew, contact Elaine Schmucker (847-776-5816) or Rupal Taylor (847-821-9987 / hrdtaylor@yahoo.com). Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets Our gratitude goes to all who donated to the Palatine Township’s 2011 Thanksgiving Dinner Basket Program. Due to your generosity, we had more than enough food items to fill eight baskets and were able to add extra items to each. |
